Goodbye to the World

I've just had an extraordinary evening. A member of the parish's young adults group is entering an enclosed Benedictine monastery on Friday. So, tonight a group of us went to a local Indian to bid her farewell. I'm not sure how to refer to such a gathering - not quite a Hen Night but certainly a closing of a chapter in her life! Yet, although the parting of friends is not easy, I think her heart is already in the convent and she is visibly excited about becoming a postulant.

She is the second religious vocation from the parish this year - another girl has just joined the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate. Please remember them in your prayers, together with all young people discerning their vocation.

Father you are involved with something that is going VERY right...

One parish in the city that is more on the traditional side has sent 14 men to the seminary in the last decade...

People need to take note!

Dear Fr., this is wonderful news and a sign that the Holy Spirit is doing great things in your parish. Thanks be to God, and thank you for posting.

The parish can't claim full credit - the young lady has always wanted to be a nun and stumbled across the convent in question through an article in Catholic Life magazine.

But don't sell yourself short!

A parish can be take credit for NOT fostering a vocation though.

I do admire your humility!

She has chosen the better part.
Or rather, I suppose I should say she has been chosen.
I pray she will persevere.

I agree with the others that this is a sign of the Holy Spirit working in the Church.

A comment on the picture Father has chosen for this post. This is a young Audrey Hepburn, I think, in "The Nun's Story", (1963 ?) and wearing far too much make-up !

She will perserve, I am more than sure. She's in love with Jesus' Heart till the neck! She's been waiting for this day for two years as she needed to complete her studies. Who has known her will miss her for her being. But she has found. Let she be happy!

God, bless this great woman and to all consecrated persons and let those whom you call may discern and be willing to follow you as you have prepared the right, e.g. joyful way to each!

Wow... many congratulations, to the parish (which has fostered - or at least not squashed - her vocation) and to the young woman herself!
