Yes, the terms 'conservative' and 'liberal' are frequently misused, especially within the Church. But, for the purpose of the joke caption, I think any mass army of Popes - whether it be Benedict, John Paul the Great, or whoever - would seem nightmarish to anybody with a secular, liberal worldview!
